Six Canadian soldiers were injured in a firefight with the Taliban on Thursday after they were ambushed west of Kandahar. The soldiers were conducting a patrol through the volatile Zhari district a couple of hours after sunrise when their armoured vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device, said a spokesman for the Canadian military. The men leapt from their disabled vehicle to find themselves under attack by insurgents. A gunfight ensued and they sustained various types of wounds. The military will not elaborate on the injuries, other than to say they were not serious. The injured soldiers were evacuated by helicopter to a multinational hospital on the Kandahar Airforce Base, an operations centre for NATO forces, where they were treated and released.
