Ban for drunk who crashed into parliament gate

A DRIVER who crashed into the gates of the Scottish Parliament has been banned from driving. Collen Crispin Mahamba, a Zimbabwean national, reversed into the steel structure late at night, breaking the massive gates. Police were called and found the 49-year-old slumped drunk in his car in a nearby street just hours later. Today at Edinburgh Sheriff Court he admitted driving without due care or attention and failing to stop at an accident. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to drive while drunk but had not guilty pleas to giving a false name to police and driving while under the influence of alcohol accepted. The court heard how Mahamba had been out just before midnight on a Saturday night in May when he crashed his car into the gates at Holyrood Road.
