CHICAGO -- To say White Sox pitching has taken a step back over the past month might be something of an understatement. It was the only facet of the game the team seemed to have control of through the first half, while struggling with an up-and-down offense. But not anymore. Entering play Wednesday, White Sox pitchers have posted a 6.04 ERA since the All-Star break -- the second-highest mark in the Major Leagues. During that span, the team's ERA has risen from 3.70 to 4.15. The recent results beg the question: Was the first-half dominance a fluke?
