Uganda: Dialogue is Expensive But Let's Pursue It

Posted to the web 5 August 2008 Julius Okello The people of Uganda need peace and more specifically the conflict prone northern, eastern and West Nile regions. They all want peace so that they catch up with development and be able to match with the rest of the country that has enjoyed relative peace and sustainable economic development since 1986. But how do we achieve this? First, the government of Uganda needs to deal with the International Criminal Court question through informing the technocrats of the ICC that Uganda now has the capacity to handle cases related to war crimes and crimes against humanity through the newly created Special Division of the High Court. The chief mediator, Riek Machar, in the LRA-government peace talks should engage both the government of Uganda and ICC officials to accept to withdraw the case...
