Louisville International sees cuts in number of flights, nonstop service Just months ago, Louisville International Airport was completing its second-best year ever, with a 3.7 percent increase in passengers, 105 flights and nonstop service to 29 destinations. Oil prices as high as $145 a barrel, sending jet-fuel costs soaring, have changed that. Today, fewer airlines are flying fewer trips from Louisville, part of a national cutback that includes reduced flights, fewer nonstop destinations -- and soon, rising ticket prices. Since Dec. 1, 2007, Louisville has lost nonstop service to three cities -- Boston, Pittsburgh and Kansas City, Mo. By Sept. 8, Denver, Milwaukee and Raleigh-Durham, N.C., will be off the nonstop schedule. The only way for a Louisville traveler to reach those cities will be through a hub, such as Charlotte,...
