Chrysler site pulls in 'major players'

Among the expected bidders Thursday: UD, Buccini/Pollin Group By GARY HABER • The News Journal • July 27, 2008 Buyers interested in Chrysler's Newark assembly plant property have until Thursday to submit bids on the 244-acre parcel and city officials say there are at least 100 interested parties, including the University of Delaware and The Buccini/Pollin Group, a leading firm in the rebuilding of Wilmington's riverfront. UD officials say they have expressed interest in talks with Chrysler LLC, although they would not say whether they have bid on the property or plan to do so. Chrysler, which listed the property for sale this spring, plans to close the plant at the end of 2009. "We are interested in it," said Scott Douglass, UD's executive vice president and treasurer.
