Petition calls for PM to 'reprimand' Robinson: The News Letter -

Published Date: 25 July 2008 PRIME Minister Gordon Brown is being asked to personally intervene in the ongoing row over comments made by Iris Robinson on homosexuality. Almost 12,000 signatures have been added to a petition demanding that Mr Brown reprimand the Strangford MP for her stated views on gays. Last month, in a radio interview, the wife of the Northern Ireland First Minister described homosexuality as an "abomination" and claimed that with help gay people could be "turned around". Mrs Robinson's remarks caused widespread debate and the furore has now been brought to the attention of 10 Downing Street. Thousands have utilised an e-petition provision incorporated onto the Prime Minister's website, allowing members of the public to both create and sign petitions lobbying Mr Brown on an issue of their choice.
