The Secretary of State is to be grilled after evading questions about apparently major flaws in historical terrorist investigations. In June the News Letter wrote to Shaun Woodward with two questions about the methods being used by the PSNI's Historical Enquiries Team (HET): l Why is HET not carrying out DNA tests on a container load of terrorist weapons held in storage in order to build intelligence on the murderers that used them? l Why is HET only examining ballistic records on a murder-by-murder basis instead of using the records to systematically look for connections between the 3,268 deaths on its books? HET began reviewing cases from the late 1960s and has closed over 400 cases so far. It has over 1,000 open cases and is now looking at murders carried out in 1973-4.
