An interesting new study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates claims that, at a rate of three to one, retail salespersons are recommending LCD flat-panel TV technology over plasma to consumers that are looking for a big screen TV 40” or larger in size. The data was conducted via a team of 2,000 mystery shoppers that visited several retail stores in the U.S. over the past six months, asking various questions to measure both the knowledge and recommendations of sales persons. It appears that many people still believe issues that used to be apparent with plasma TV technology, like burn-in, still exist, even though they have been drastically improved over the past few years. In fact, 37 per cent of the salespeople told the consumer (i.e. the “mystery” shopper) that images could permanently be burned onto a plasma TV screen....
