When Anne Medeiros got married last year, she and her husband chose an unusual destination for their honeymoon: two developing countries in East Africa. While in Uganda and Tanzania, Medeiros and her husband did what a lot of tourists do: They went to national parks and saw animals like chimps and mountain gorillas. But they also took time to visit a local hospital, tour a village adjacent to a national park to talk to local women about their day-to-day lives and see how other people in the area live. Medeiros, who called the village tour one of her "most memorable experiences," said she was especially struck by the stark poverty.
