I want to give a big thank you to one of our Abilene City Council members, Robert Briley. During the recent City Council elections, I was very vocal in supporting Lydia Long. I did this because I work with her as an officer in the Old Town Abilene Neighborhood Association. While I supported Lydia, I respected both of the other candidates. My husband, David Marshall, grew up with Robert Briley. Robert used to spend time at my husband's home as a child, reading scripture with my husband and his mother, Ruby Marshall (who will celebrate her 98th birthday on Sept. 9). The election was an awkward time due to the desire to support the neighborhood candidate, while not being able to support a longtime friend of the family.
