In the years 2005 to 2007, 16 and 17 year old drivers in Minnesota were involved in 116 crashes that killed 133 people. Authorities hope new laws that go into effect Friday, August 1st, will lower those statistics. They limit a teen driver's exposure to two high-risk situations: driving late at night and carrying multiple teen passengers. At Excalibur Driving School in Eden Prairie, future drivers are learning about the new laws as they work to get their licenses. For many teens, getting a license is the big transition to adulthood. Behind-the-wheel instructor, Lyle Ferguson says, "Getting your license is kind of a right of passage?It's celebratory. You want to have some fun with it."
