Will the 'tax swap' amendment help or harm Florida?

TALLAHASSEE (Bay News 9) -- This November, voters will have the chance to cut property taxes again, this time by up to 40 percent. That's the promise behind Amendment Five, which aims to eliminate the property taxes Florida schools depend on and replace them with an increase in sales taxes. Teachers like Adrienne Campbell worry that, with funding as tight as it is, Amendment Five could further damage Florida's schools. "People are getting fired and people are leaving the state of Florida," said Campbell, a high school teacher. "We're really frustrated and of course we're like, well, here's the radio telling us that, 'We need teachers.' The public and the government's telling us how important we are, but we're getting cut."
