Democrats, Republicans pull out the stops at campaign events

Santiago Esparza / The Detroit News The election teams for presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain ramped up their efforts in Michigan Saturday, while also getting behind local candidates and reminding people to vote in the upcoming primary, which is just 10 days away. The Republican Party opened offices in Grand Rapids, Farmington Hills, Macomb Township, Traverse City, White Lake Township and Brighton. Volunteers at the Farmington Hills GOP site called potential voters and reminded them that their vote counts, and questioned them about issues they believe are important this year. About two dozen or so volunteers used a new telephone system that allowed them to input data so it was immediately updated.
