A political analyst discusses two recent incidents in Thailand where the public's interests were disregarded for political purposes By Suranand Vejjajiva Two non-related occurrences appeared on your television screen in the past week. Both opened up again the debate on the use of public television for political gain. First, there was an appearance on Channel 5, the army television station, of three dubious characters declaring peace in the southern conflict. They called themselves the "Underground Southern Unity Group" and the event was coordinated by former defence minister and army chief, General Chettha Thanajaro, who at present is an MP and leader of the Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana party, a government coalition partner.
