Three teenage boys from Valley Stream were playing football on the beach near Riverside Boulevard when two of them were swept out into the ocean at about 6:15 p.m., said city manager Charles Theofan. One of them, age 19, was pulled from the water and later pronounced dead at Long Beach Hospital. Police and firefighters in helicopters and boats searched for the second teen, who was believed to have been swept eastward, Theofan said. While the beach officially closes at 6 p.m., a limited staff of four lifeguards remain on duty until 8 p.m., Theofan said.
