Rimmer's drawings keep her going

KOTA KINABALU: Senyum sikit, she gently coaxes her 70-year-old subject, who flashes a toothy grin and starts giggling. The artist chuckles along with her, her eyes darting constantly from her subject to the portrait she is drawing. "That's more like it. That's what I'm trying to capture. It's much nicer when she smiles. Her eyes light up and the laughter lines appear. But then it's gone so quickly," said the artist. The subject is a terminally ill cancer patient who goes to the Palliative Care Association centre for day care, and the artist is 91-year-old former Briton Tina Rimmer. Rimmer has been drawing portraits of patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Palliative Care Association for eight years now.
