Judge orders mayor to pay $7,500 bond

DETROIT, July 25 (UPI) -- A Detroit judge has said Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick must post a $7,500 bond to stay out of jail, officials said. The Detroit Free Press reported Friday that Judge Ronald Giles of Detroit's 36th District Court said the mayor violated the terms of his bond in his criminal case after a sheriff's deputy testified he was assaulted by the mayor. Deputy Brian White testified Kilpatrick shouted expletives at him and his partner when he sought to serve a subpoena on Kilpatrick's friend, Bobby Ferguson, at the mayor's sister's home. The judge also Friday revoked the mayor's right to make any trips, though he allowed previously scheduled travel. He also ordered periodic and random drug screens for the mayor.
