Ortiz back; Ramirez out; Ellsbury dropped

Hello from Fenway Park, where the Red Sox are preparing to take on the New York Yankees in the first game of a three-game series. There’s some significant things going on here at the moment. First of all, David Ortiz is returning to the Boston lineup after being sidelined since tearing a tendon sheath in his left wrist on May 31. Ortiz tested out the wrist on a six-game rehab assignment at Pawtucket and Portland, where he combeined to hit .294 (5-for-17) with three homers and six RBI. Outfielder Brandon Moss was optioned to Pawtucket yesterday to create room on the active roster. “People talk about additions around the trading deadline, well, that’s a pretty good one,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said of Ortiz’ return.
