An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition this morning after he was injured when a firework exploded near him. According to family spokeswoman Dana Luke, a man in the Lehi neighborhood was attempting to light a homemade firework when 11-year-old Bridger Hunt rode by on his bicycle. As Hunt turned the corner, the explosive went off and hit him. A piece of metal the size of an 8-by-11 notebook struck the boy in the abdomen. Emergency crews were called, and Hunt was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center, where where doctors performed immediate surgeries to repair his massive injuries. "We often, in times of medicine, see slides from surgeons who have taken time to serve in the Middle East, and this injury looks like a military injury," said Primary Children's Dr. Eric Scaife.
