by Julie Harker Missouri Governor Matt Blunt met Friday with biotech officials in the Netherlands to showcase Missouri’s strides in biotechnology. Two of his stops were at Monsanto subsidiaries. The St. Louis based company purchased the Seminis, the largest vegetable seed company in the world, in 2005 and acquired De Ruiter, the largest vegetable seed company in The Netherlands, earlier this year. Blunt presented Missouri’s achievements in biotech to the Netherlands’ Biotech Industry Association and discussed potential collaborations for growing the industry. This year, the Missouri legislature passed a bill to appropriate more than 13 million dollars to the a life sciences trust fund that will focus on animal science, plant science, human health and agriculture research.
