Started last year, with over 31,000 under or unemployed, the program provides training in other (growing) fields. Governor Granholm is looking to add $6 million for a Green Jobs Initiative. In a state that relies so heavily on the automotive industry, alternative energy work represents the way of the future. Michigan’s unemployment rate is at 8.5%, the highest in the country, and the No Worker Left Behind Program is pushing to combat that number. $177 million in state and Federal money is being put into the labor training initiative.
