Something old, something new, something blue, something cool. There's all of that and more in Monterey Jazz Festival Records' latest Six Archival Recordings, set for release Aug. 5. Featured in this second round of recordings are Cal Tjader, Jimmy Witherspoon, Tito Puente and his orchestra, Shirley Horn, Dave Brubeck and Art Blakey. All the performances were recorded live on the arena stage at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. Monterey Jazz Festival Records was founded in 2007 in connection with the festival's 50th anniversary. Tim Jackson, the festival's general manager, began thinking of the record label in 2004 with the digitization of aging records.
