By Dan Hinxman • dhinxman@rgj.com • July 25, 2008 David Duval, the former No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, has committed to play in the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open, tournament director Michael Stearns said Friday afternoon. “I’ve known David a long time and it’s a pleasure to see him as a friend,” said Stearns, who was involved in the made-for-TV Shootout at Sherwood in 1999, when Duval squared off against Tiger Woods. “He’s one of the great golfers of our generation. He’s the former No. 1 golfer in the world and I know he still loves to play the game.” In 1999, Duval became the first player since Johnny Miller in 1974 to win four times before the Masters.
