Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the defending champion, eased into the last eight of the Toronto Masters, while a racket-smashing Andy Roddick suffered a shock upset. The Frenchman Gilles Simon, who a day earlier had sent world No.1 Roger Federer tumbling out of the tournament, swept into the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Argentine José Acasuso. Roddick, the sixth seed, became the latest upset victim, losing to the 19-year-old Croat Marin Cilic, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Four of the top six seeds have been eliminated.
