Conn. may order utility to credit customers

Next Politics & Policy Article HARTFORD, Conn. - Connecticut Natural Gas has collected millions in profits to which it is not entitled and may have to compensate by crediting customers' monthly bills, state regulators said Friday. The Department of Public Utility Control issued a draft decision Friday that could result in credits of $2.47 to $9.25 monthly for average residential customers until at least early 2009. The agency's commissioners are scheduled to vote July 30 on finalizing the decision. Connecticut Natural Gas, which is a subsidiary of Energy East Corp., was allowed to collect 10.1 percent in profits in their budget year ending April 30, but earned more for at least six of the 12 months, the regulators concluded.
