George Hunter / The Detroit News LANSING -- Attorney General Mike Cox will charge Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick with the assault of a detective if a State Police investigation reveals a crime was committed. Michigan State Police are looking into allegations that Kilpatrick assaulted Det. Brian White, a Wayne County Sheriff's officer assigned to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. The alleged assault took place Thursday afternoon at a Detroit home owned by Kilpatrick's sister, Ayanna. "The investigation is ongoing," Michigan State Police spokeswoman Melody Kindraka said. She said she did not know how long the probe would take. Cox's spokesman Rusty Hills said the Attorney General's office will handle any charges stemming from the state police investigation.
