Rittenhouse patrons don’t want homeless people sleeping within eyesight of their $25 entrée

posted by Tom Namako The Inquirer continues its unofficial series on the atrocity of homeless people in — gasp — Rittenhouse Square, revealing truths like 1) homeless people bathe in the fountain, 2) they sleep on the benches and 3) the rich people don't like it. Today, they catch up with Police Commissioner Ramsey, who brings the issue down a notch: Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey said in an interview that he saw no need to ramp up enforcement of laws that ban sleeping in parks and public places. "We can make people move along. We can't arrest them for simply being homeless, nor should we," Ramsey said. Ramsey said he also saw no need to increase the police presence in high-profile parks such as Rittenhouse Square, where about three dozen people encamp on any given night.
