The Bank Job

THE caper movie never really goes out of style. It provides something most of us want to believe - that robbing a bank, casino or millionaire's vault is not such a crime when it's done with elegance and ingenuity. Stealing as an art form is no crime, in other words. Ingenuity trumps morality and everyone gets rich quick - or not, because sometimes they get caught. The Oceans Eleven and Mission Impossible series are basically caper movies with the best of modern technology and the prettiest male actors on the planet (and one or two of the prettiest females, although they're more peripheral). The Bank Job, on the other hand, being basically British, has hardly any handsome chaps but it has the delightful cheekbones of Saffron Burrows, the rough-hewn East End charm of Jason Statham and the advantage of being sort of true.
