Tragic baby abuse probe

TASMANIA'S child protection system is under fire again after a three-year-old Ulverstone girl was left battling for her life in the Royal Hobart Hospital. The toddler, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was returned to live with her family from temporary foster care just before suffering horrific injuries. She was moved back to her family home after a decision was made by child protection case managers from Children and Family Services in the North-West that it was in her best interests. Police are investigating how the girl's injuries were sustained and whether criminal charges should be laid. The girl's family took her to the Mersey Hospital at Latrobe last week with severe head injuries. She is now in a critical condition in a drug-induced coma at the RHH.
