Adel van Niekerk, Abuja Disgruntled Nigerian teachers took to the streets in the capital, Abuja, today over salary disputes in a rare show of public protest in the West African country. The continued deadlock in salary negotiations with authorities has brought the education system to a complete halt for almost a month now. Residents say it's the first public protest in the last decade. Teachers say they've had enough and are furious at government for not giving in to demands of higher salary structures. Wage negotiations have been taking place for months but with no progress and teachers decided last month to embark on a three day warning strike.
