health care MATTHEW GAUK The Prince Albert Daily Herald Saskatchewan Drug Plan-approval of two new attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) drugs is expected to reduce the misuse of Ritalin in the province. Tracey Smith, director of pharmaceutical services at Saskatchewan Health, said that Concerta is almost impossible to break down into a powder or liquid form to abuse for its stimulant properties. The hard shell of the tablet is such that one doctor, at a press conference on the new pills last week, claimed he tried smashing it with a hammer and failed. The drug is also difficult to dissolve in water, because when submerged for long periods it just turns into a sort of foam, Smith said. Strattera, the other recently approved medication, doesn't contain methylphenidate, the stimulating chemical in most ADHD drugs....
