Team USA has dominated Olympics softball

BEIJING, July 25 (UPI) -- Softball Gold medals to be awarded: 1 Dates of competition: Aug. 12-21 This will be the final Olympic appearance for softball until such time as the International Olympic Committee changes its view on the American-dominated sport. Along with baseball, softball has been voted out of the Games. It is the first time since 1936 that a sport has been removed from the Olympics. The victim on that occasion was polo. The United States will try to win its fourth gold medal in as many attempts. In Athens, the Americans went 9-0 and outscored the opposition 51-1. Of the 15 members of that team, 10 return. They include Crystl Bustos, who had five home runs and 10 RBI in Athens -- both Olympic records.
