Maywood police executed 30 warrants Friday morning in connection with a west suburban drug ring allegedly operated by members of the Gangster Disciples. About 6 a.m., police executed six search warrants and 24 arrest warrants targeting members of the Gangster Disciples street gang and local drug dealers allegedly involved in the delivery of controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school or church, according to a Maywood police release. Undercover officers used state-of-the art video surveillance equipment and creative techniques during the five-month investigation named Operation Summer Heat, the release said. If convicted, those arrested face Class I, non-probationary felonies that carry mandatory sentences of four to 15 years in prison.
