Posted to the web 25 July 2008 Taye Obateru The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos Branch, has urged the Federal Government to find a lasting solution to the strike by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) dismissing the excuse that the Federal Government could not commit state governments to the teachers' salary structure. The union in a statement said steps should be taken to end the strike to prevent other labour unions from joining in solidarity with the teachers. The statement signed by Timothy Namo and Cosmos Wule, Chairman and Secretary of the branch respectively said the prolonged nature of the strike had again shown the apathy of government towards the education of the Nigerian child now forced to roam the streets instead of completing the 2007/2008 academic year.
