Son's death on 9/11 builds lives in Afghanistan

Couple speaks to students at Tompkins Cortland Community College By Liz Lawyer • Journal Staff • July 25, 2008 DRYDEN — Sally Goodrich reached her hand out toward the young Afghan boy, offering him a handshake. After a moment of confusion, he grabbed her hand for a brief moment. “That was really bad of me,” Goodrich said with a laugh. “He's not supposed to touch a woman.” The moment of unawareness happened in Afghanistan in 2005, on a trip Goodrich took to see the beginning of construction on a girls' school she made possible from her home in the United States. Captured in the footage of a documentary in progress, Goodrich's trip was only one of five she has made to the Middle Eastern country. “What do you think?” someone asked her from behind the camera.
