Rabies fears mount

By Alison Bergsieker • DAILY PRESS & ARGUS • July 24, 2008 As officials sound warnings about the growing number of rabies cases in animals, a Perry woman who spent last week at the New Fowlerville Family Fair is being treated with a rabies vaccine due to a bat bite. Brooke Dinsmore, 21, a longtime 4-H'er at the fair, noticed a small sore on her right arm resembling a spider bite last Friday, which swelled to the size of a baseball with streaking marks by Monday morning. After consulting with a doctor and with Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, the Perry woman was told she had been bitten by a bat and, after several tests, it was determined that she needed to be started on a rabies vaccine immediately.
