Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Evansville

Courier & Press staff Originally published 01:57 p.m., July 24, 2008 Photo by Kevin Swank Evansville Police Dept. officers investigate an accident near the intersection of Bellmeade Ave. and St. Marys Drive on Thursday. According to initial reports the driver of the Park Avenue automobile was traveling east on Bellmeade Ave. and crossed the center line and drove up on the sidewalk hitting someone who was walking eastbound. The person hit the windshield of the car and was carried about 20 or 30 feet before falling off of the car. The car then hit the curb, blew out a tire and stopped on the east side of the intersection. A 69-year-old man died Thursday after he was hit by a car at Bellemeade Avenue and St. Mary’s Drive driven by a 66-year-old woman police say was intoxicated on illegal prescription drugs.
