Tech Stocks: Amazon, Qualcomm gains fail to lift tech sector at close (at MarketWatch)

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Most technology stocks sagged on Thursday after Microsoft Corp. held court with analysts over its still-evolving strategy in wake of its failure to make a deal with Yahoo Inc., but investors did push up shares of Qualcomm Inc., Nokia Corp. and Amazon.com Inc. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index fell more than 45 points, or 2%, to close at 2,280, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell more than 4% and the Morgan Stanley High Tech 35 Index gave up 1.6%. Decliners included Apple Inc. and Cisco Systems Inc. fell 99 cents a share, or 3.8%, to $25.44.
