State Government's plan for 160,000 new homes 'hot air' By Clare Masters, Political Reporter AS families struggle paying peak prices for rents due to record low housing levels, the State Government's grand plan for new cities containing 160,000 homes is gathering dust. Not one sod of dirt has been turned on Sydney's promised lands, despite the Government guaranteeing the first homes by 2007. In June 2005, former premier Bob Carr promised 90,000 new homes would be built in Sydney's southwest, 60,000 in the northwest and 10,000 in Edmondson Park, near Liverpool. "In these new communities we will make sure families won't have to use a litre of petrol to buy a litre of milk," Mr Carr said.
