Area Roundup: Junior Olympics return to RAC

The Sierra Nevada Junior Olympics are back at the Redding Aquatic Center starting today. That means 29 teams from Sparks, Nev., to Vacaville, Sacramento and Lodi consisting of about 630 swimmers are in town for the four-day event. The Junior Olympics feature the best young swimmers in different age groups ranging from 8-and-under to 17-and-over. All the racing will be at the Olympic-size, 50-meter long course level. The meet runs from today to Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. each day. Individual events have preliminary races in morning to early afternoon and then the top eight in each event and age class advance to the day's final, starting at 5 or 5:30 p.m. Relay events will be contested in the afternoon.
