Nigeria: Teachers' Strike - NLC Laments Government's Silence

Posted to the web 24 July 2008 Kor Sylvester Abuja NIGERIA Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed surprise over government's silence on the on-going strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT). The Congress noted that issues involved in the impasse were such that government could address with relative ease if it meant well for Nigerian children. The congress in a letter to president Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, called on the president to urgently intervene in the crisis "to ensure that this matter does not escalate to a point that the NLC will be compelled to assume the driving-seat'.'
