Uganda: Lift Ban, Ochwo Begs URU

Posted to the web 24 July 2008 Douglas Mazune Kampala THE Uganda Rugby Cranes may miss the services of the suspended Mathias Ochwo in the 2011 IRB World Cup pre-qualifier/ Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Cup crunch tie with Madagascar in Kampala next week. The MTN Heathens flanker, who was suspended for five weeks for punching uganda telecom Kobs' Paul Barigye in the Uganda Cup semi-final, has appealed to the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) executive committee to lift the ban. Normally when a player is sent off for such misconduct, he is required to appear before the disciplinary committee. "Ochwo was barred from national team engagements but the executive committee, which has the final powers, will soon hear his appeal," a source told The New Vision yesterday.
