Bahrain- GPIC project to cut CO2

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) will be implementing a project that is expected to reduce more than 100,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year as of 2010. GPIC, a joint venture for the manufacture of fertilisers and petrochemicals is equally owned by Bahrain, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, and Petrochemical Industries Company, Kuwait. It manufactures fertilisers and petrochemicals, producing almost 1.5 million tonnes of Ammonia, Urea and Methanol per year. The project will capture carbon dioxide from flue gas and then recycle it as feedstock in the production of urea and methanol.
