Myers struggles in return; loss to Mets drops Phillies back into tie for NL East lead By SCOTT LAUBER • The News Journal • July 24, 2008 NEW YORK -- For most of the day, the big city buzzed over the reviled Phillies and their improbable ninth-inning rally Tuesday night that vanquished the Mets and inspired flashbacks of last September's epic finish in the National League East. Then, Brett Myers plodded to the mound. And the Phillies' momentum vanished. After his three-week, confidence-seeking mission to the minors, Myers' anticipated return Wednesday night at Shea Stadium was a dud. And although he wasn't tagged with the decision in a 6-3 loss to the Mets, he admitted his lack of control, particularly in the first inning, prevented the Phillies from ever taking control.
