HONOLULU – Governor Linda Lingle has released $3,340,000 to finance improvement projects at public schools statewide, including health and safety upgrades to remove cesspools, storm water discharge plans, and a pilot study to determine how to make portable classrooms more energy efficient. Last week the Governor also announced the release of $30 million for various classroom renovations statewide. Cesspool Removal (Statewide) – $200,000: An additional $200,000 released by the Governor will be used to continue the closure and conversion of cesspools at schools statewide to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Clean Water Act.
