Posted to the web 24 July 2008 Mninawa Ntloko Port Elizabeth Plunged into despair after world football governing body Fifa dropped Port Elizabeth from the list of host venues for next year's Confederations Cup earlier this month, the gloom has been momentarily lifted for this city ahead of the Soweto derby showdown between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates tonight. While incensed soccer lovers continued to argue here yesterday that Fifa jumped the gun by deciding that construction at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium was behind schedule and the new venue was never going to be completed in time to host the Confederations Cup, the anger has slowly been replaced by excitement.
