Federal or state, the prospects for more road money are dim Now, weren't those back-ups on I-64 fun this weekend? Great for tourism, and what a grand message to send to the business world: Visit the Peninsula and watch the bumper in front of you. The General Assembly has met repeatedly over multiple years, in special and regular session, and produced zilch progress on new state road funding. Gov. Tim Kaine says he'll try again in January, as he begins the last year of his administration — historically, not a propitious moment for big initiatives. And what about those folks in Washington, running the federal government? Don't they have a role to play in all this? Indeed so, but don't cast a glance up there optimistically.
