Change of venue requested in trial | PDF

When Amanda Brooks Lay goes to trial for murder in connection with the beating death this spring of her 3-year-old son, Kalab, it probably won't be in Vanderburgh County. Both she and her husband, Terry Lay, are in the Vanderburgh County Jail awaiting trial for the child's alleged beating death. They also are accused of abusing his twin sister. Lay's attorney Russ Woodson's motion for a change of venue, submitted Wednesday in Vanderburgh Superior Court, came as no surprise in a case that has touched the community and galvanized many to demand change in the child protection system. Vanderburgh County Deputy Prosecutor Jonathan Parkhurst told Judge Robert Pigman that both parties have agreed the trial can be moved to Jeffersonville, Ind., in Clark County.
