10:36 PM EDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 By WCNC Staff • Sign up for severe weather alerts: CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- For the second evening in a row severe thunderstorms moved through the Charlotte area, downing trees and producing frequent lightning strikes. One WCNC viewer reported that lightning struck a house on Prince George Road in south Charlotte, burning a small hole in the wall. Residents in the Ballantyne area reported hail and strong wind gusts. Penny-sized hail was also reported in Stanly County. In Cherryville, a resident reported at least three trees downed by the wind. In Iredell County off Highway 21 at Woodland Bend Drive, emergency service workers reported trees on power lines.
